Doug brings over 15 years of professional planning experience to Houseal Lavigne Associates and as a Senior Associate manages projects that span the range of urban planning, design, land use, zoning, and economic development specialties. Doug’s recent work leverages his architecture training and professional experience in urban design and transportation planning to create development strategies and zoning policies that connect a community’s plans to what actually gets built on the ground.
Doug is motivated to engage the community as the heart and soul of the planning process, and then produce plans that offer original and locally contextual solutions. This is evident in his work as project manager on the Oak Park, Illinois Comprehensive Plan, which includes 11 technical chapters that are uniquely responsive to the needs and aspirations of the community.
Prior to joining Houseal Lavigne Associates, Doug worked for both national and international consulting firms specializing in land use, urban design, multi-modal transportation, and zoning. Doug has a Bachelor of Professional Studies in Architecture from the University at Buffalo and a Master of City Planning from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
