The Village of South Chicago Heights is a fully developed community located approximately 27 miles south of Downtown Chicago. The Comprehensive Plan, directed by Houseal Lavigne Associates, focuses of stabilizing and strengthening the residential neighborhoods, revitalizing the Village's commercial areas, strategically locating and planning for new municipal facilities, and establishing the policy framework for the development of a new Metra train station and surrounding transit-oriented development (TOD). Building on a foundation of community outreach and citizen participation, the Plan also prioritizes the establishment of additional parks and open space and the development of an improved trail/pedestrian network providing connectivity throughout the community.
