Kane and McHenry Counties are experiencing regional growth and development pressure that stress the public infrastructure and threaten the natural environment. The IL 47 Corridor Study will focus on these growth issues as they pertain to the IL 47 Corridor, and work towards balancing the desire for new development and preservation of the natural landscape. The Study will incorporate balanced growth, sustainability, “complete streets,” and Context Sensitive Design principles as it looks at the growth and development pressures the Corridor has begun to witness.

The Study Area for the project focuses on the IL 47 Corridor as it travels southbound from the Illinois/Wisconsin State Line to US 30 at the south end of Kane County, Illinois near Sugar Grove and Montgomery, IL.

The goal of the project is to work with our municipal partners to provide a vision for IL 47 as a corridor of the future that provides for a healthy population and economy through the provision of sustainable land uses; a safe, complete/multi-modal street design; and, the implementation of smart growth principles.
