| Why arent there any police cars on Claremont drive where there is constant speeding, day and night? Cars are flying up and down this street, going well over the 25mph and i dont ever see a cop anywhere. I have seen people with their kids or dogs nearly run over by speedng cars and yet no police patrolling this street ever. I believe speed bumps will be put in soon, but until then, there should be some way to slow down the speeding cars. The average speed is about 45mph, that is 20 mph over the limit!! Why wouldnt there be police on this street?????? |

Laura: Have you attended any of the traffic calming meetings held by the PW department over the last several months? PW is taking action finally and they are getting ready to install several traffic calming solutions to Claremont Drive later this summer. Claremont Drive is considered a feeder street and sees over 1200 cars a day. I reside on this street and am one of the big proponents of slowing things down.. If the Village council passes the recomendation by Public works we'll see several different types of trafic slowing soutions on Claremont Drive. Cops sitting on this street are not a perminent solution to slowing the traffic down. It's costly tothe Village to have a car sitting there at various times of the day. Beside perminent speed tables being installed, curb enhancements to narrow the streets at various places as well as round abouts are scheduled tobe installed by late August. |

I like the round about idea. Coming home from the Blackhawks game the other day I had the occasion to drive through 5 round about’s in a 6 block time frame in Chicago. I think that was over kill but I like the idea. I think we should use these all over town. I like the idea of forcing people to slow down and not give drivers long stretches of road on the side streets to speed down.
My other concern is that there is a lack of signage in town. Speed limit signs are few and far between in many area of town. I recently was ticketed just south of Maple traveling south on main. I was going 41 mph. If you go too much slower than that you get run over. I thought the speed limit once you were out of the downtown past maple was 35 mph. Many of my neighbors thought the same also. Therefore, I would have been going my normal 5 - 7 mph with in the speed limit. Pretty normal I thought. I took my lumps and paid the ticket, but there are NO speed limit signs in the downtown or going south out of the downtown. The first MPH sign you come to is past the NEW fire station on main st past 55th street. I know is see it everyday, It is 35 mph there. It is also 35 MPH going north once you pass 63rd until past the fire station where there is a sign letting you know that the speed is reduced going north into the downtown area. Now the North side (cuzz the north siders always get treated better LOL :) is in my opinion clearly marked. There is a 30 MPH sign just outside the downtown just past St. Joseph church at about Praire. That seems fair to me. If you can't keep your speed just after a school zone under 30 - 35 then you deserve to get lite up. I just want the people traveling through our fine town to know what the posted limit is. You can give out all the tickets you want but that doesn’t fix the issue. I think proper and clearly marked speed limit signs would go a long way towards calming the speeding issue in town. I have already spoken with my buddy Luis with the village about this issue and he has assured me he will look into it. Thanks. |
