Mattoon's Comprehensive Plan Update provides a great opportunity for residents to communicate what they believe to be the strengths and weaknesses of the community, and to prioritize what issues are most important for the City to address in the near term and in the future. Our planning process is designed to promote community involvement and encourage citizen participation. Community outreach is included throughout the entire planning process. We know that the success of this planning effort will depend on engaging our community. This website is just one of many ways you can participate in the planning process. Opportunities to participate at a meeting or workshop are listed below.
PUBLIC WORKSHOP MEETINGS
Several public workshop meetings are planned for Mattoon's Comprehensive Plan. The meetings will include short, informative presentations followed by interactive group exercises and hands-on activities.

Community Visioning Session - Wednesday April 4th, 6:30 p.m., Burgess Osborne Auditorium, 1701 Wabash Avenue
The Community Visioning Session will include both large group and small group working sessions to review and discus conditions and potentials within the City. The large group will work together to identify issues and opportunities, and the small “breakout” groups will work together to develop “visions” for the future of the community. It will conclude with general agreement regarding the long-term role and character of Mattoon and the projects and improvements that will be desirable in the future.
Community Workshop #2 - Date TBD
The third community workshop will be conducted to review and discuss the draft Comprehensive Plan.
Final Plan Report to the Plan Commission (Public Hearing) - Date TBD
The Final Comprehensive Plan Report will be presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission for public hearing. Based on review and discussion, and based on public feedback during the public hearing, a revised Comprehensive Plan will be prepared for recommendation to the City Council.

The Final Comprehensive Plan Report will be presented to the City Council for consideration and adoption. Based on feedback, a Final Comprehensive Plan will be submitted for adoption.
