A public hearing will be held prior to the Village Board's formal adoption of the Plan. The Public Hearing is to be held on April 27, 2011 at 7:00 PM at the Fire Station Headquarters (1000 N. Midlothian Road).

 
The Mundelein Plan Commission has been working the past 12 months with consultants from Houseal Lavigne Associates to prepare a Draft Comprehensive Plan Update. The Plan is comprehensive in both scope and coverage. Recommendations are provided for land use, transportation and circulation, community facilities, community character, and open space and environmental features. In addition, plans and recommendations are provided for key focus areas, including: Diamond Lake Subarea, South Side Commercial Subarea, Downtown, and Growth Areas. The Comprehensive Plan is Mundelein’s official policy guide for physical improvement and development. The Plan considers the Village’s immediate needs and current issues, as well as improvements and goals that should be undertaken and/or accomplished over the next 10 to 15 years.

The Consultant Team is currently revising the Draft plans and recommendations.  Once these revisions are finalized a meeting will be held to discuss the draft with the Plan Commission (date to be determined).  Based upon input received from the Commission, any updates and/or changes will be made prior to formal presentations of the Draft Plan to the public.  

Currently, the Consultant Team is preparing Draft Village-Wide Plans including Land Use and Development, Transportation, Community Facilities, Parks and Open Space, Arts and Culture, and Sustainability.  In addition to the Village-Wide Plans, more detailed Subarea Plans are being prepared for unique areas of Mundelein including Downtown, Diamond Lake, South Corridor, Gateways, and future Growth Areas.  The next step in the process is to meet with the Plan Commission to discuss the Draft Plans before presentation to the public. Using the results of that meeting, and the information gathered from previous community meetings and other research, the Consultant Team is currently creating preliminary focus area plans for key areas within the Village.  The preliminary plans will be presented to the Plan Commission in the next two/three months.  An exact date has yet to be determined, but it will be posted on this project website once the time and location are set.

Currently, the Consultant Team is working with Village Staff to compile an Existing Conditions Analysis report.  We are planning on presenting an overview of the Village's existing conditions at the regularly scheduled January 27th, 2010 Plan Commission meeting.  After that meeting, we will be holding the next public meeting in the process, which will be a Visioning Charrette with residents.  The date of the Charrette has yet to be confirmed.  Once a time and location has been set we will post it on the project website.

What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A Comprehensive Plan serves as the Village’s official guide for land use, physical improvement and development. It provides a foundation for decision-making that is based on the community’s vision for the future and an understanding of how things are today and how things could be.

A Comprehensive Plan should serve as the Village’s “road map” for 10 to 15 years into the future, protecting and enhancing the unique and established character of the community.
