Welcome to the Village of South Chicago Heights’s Station Area Plan website – an entire website dedicated to improving public involvement and awareness throughout the Station Area Planning Process.
The Village of South Chicago Heights is developing a Station Area Plan which is intended to provide a guide for new development in the area and will seek opportunities for the establishment of a potential new Metra Station, mixed-use development, and shopping and living experiences not currently available in other parts of the Village. The Plan will establish a long-range vision for the Station Area development, define community goals and objectives, and provide guidance for implementing programs and policies to plan for the future growth of the area.
The study area for the Station Area Plan is comprised of the area located within ½ mile from the proposed station location at Sauk Trail and Union Pacific Railroad tracks and most of the Chicago Road corridor as it passes through the Village.. The study area includes most of the area bounded by 27th Place to the north, east to the abandoned rail right-of-way to the east of Holeman Avenue, 34th Street to the south, and Euclid Drive to the west.
The planning process has been carefully designed to involve the community from beginning to end. Citizen participation is vital to developing the Station Area Plan. Several community outreach components have been created to involve residents, businesses, and property owners of the Village of South Chicago Heights.
A public hearing will be held on Tuesday September 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Village Hall to discuss the final plan.
This website will keep residents informed of meeting dates and times, press releases, host on-line questionnaires, and provide opportunities for feedback. As drafts of the Plan are prepared they will be posted on this site for public review and comment. All areas of the website are available for viewing. It is not necessary to login. However you can create a login to the site to be made aware of site updates and meeting dates as they are scheduled.
