The St. Cloud Parks and Recreation Master Plan will be a blueprint for parks, open space, and recreation within the City of St. Cloud, aiming to provide the community with opportunities to enjoy the outdoor and encourage a more active, health lifestyle.
What is the St. Cloud Parks and Recreation Master Plan?
The St. Cloud Parks and Recreation Master Plan will provide the City with an official guide for parks, open space, and recreation of the next 10-20 years. It will detail a long-term vision and provide policy to improve existing facilities, make necessary expansions, and provide the community with opportunities to actively enjoy the natural environment.
What are the contents of The St. Cloud Parks and Recreation Master Plan?
A parks and recreation master plan outlines the existing parks and their conditions; describes future goals, objectives, and performance standards; and provides an action plan on how to achieve the community’s desired vision for parks and recreation. The The St. Cloud Parks and Recreation Master Plan will include plans related to:
- Overall parks and recreation benchmarking and performance
- Neighborhood service areas and population standards
- Parks and open space
- Trails, paths, and non-automobile routes
- Recreation and programming
Who is involved in the St. Cloud Parks and Recreation Master Plan?
The St. Cloud Parks and Recreation Master Plan will be community-driven, and its vision and policy recommendations will be grounded in extensive community outreach. City staff, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, and other key departments will help to guide the development of the plan. Over the course of the next year, residents and stakeholders will have numerous opportunities to participate both in-person and online. Ultimately, the Plan will be reviewed and approved by the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
We already have other plans. What will happen to those?
Existing plans are an important part of the planning process. These Plans will inform the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, and in some cases will be incorporated into the document if the goals and vision are still consistent with the community’s aspirations. This will include the recently completed St. Cloud Comprehensive Plan, which can be accessed HERE.
When will the planning process start and when will it be completed?
The initial planning phases began in January 2017, with anticipated project completion in summer of 2018.
How can I get involved in the process?
