Channahon Comprehensive Plan

The Village of Channahon is located on the southwest edge of the Chicago region and provides residents suburban amenities within a rural setting. Located at the confluence of the DuPage, Des Plaines, and Kankakee Rivers, Channahon benefits from its regional position and multimodal access, which, together, supported steady residential growth from the early 1980s through the 2008 recession.

Today, Channahon is at the forefront of a new wave of investment, spurred by renewed strength in the national market. Understanding the potential for revitalization, the Village began working with Houseal Lavigne in early 2018 to develop a new Comprehensive Plan, Re-Imagine Channahon, with the objective of directing positive growth and attracting new uses into the Village that meet the needs of current and future residents. Currently in progress, the planning processes has engaged individuals throughout the community to identify key issues and establish a shared vision for Channahon’s future under a contract with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning’s (CMAP) LTA assistance program. At its core, the Plan defines how the Village may evolve over the next 10 to 20 years and the steps necessary to effect positive change in Channahon.
