The Fairfield Strategic Plan will create a blueprint for our future – a new Strategic Plan that that will guide the Town in its decision making for the next 10 – 20 years.
What is a Strategic Plan?
A Strategic Plan is a blueprint for the future. It is a plan incorporating the community’s vision that is intended to guide the Town for the next 10-20 years. The Strategic Plan will result in a set of actions that direct the evolution of our Town in many areas, including future growth, development, management, and related areas utilizing the information developed as part of the process. Additionally, the creation of a Plan can lead to potential strategies that will help effectively guide Town leaders with making substantive and thoughtful decisions for the community.
What are the contents of a Strategic Plan?
A typical Strategic Plan outlines the existing conditions of the Town, describes future goals and objectives for many aspects of development and includes an action plan on how to achieve these goals and objectives. The Fairfield Strategic Plan will analyze and potentially include actions addressing:
- Town Governance, Fiscal Management, Economic Development
- Development and Land Use Opportunities
- Town Attributes and Character
- Town Design related to Residential, Commercial, and Industrial Areas
- Transportation, Mobility, Sustainability
- Parks, Open Space, Environmental Features, Public Services / Facilities
- Other Areas as Determined During the Project
Who is involved in creating the Strategic Plan?
As the blueprint for the Town, it is critical that all of Fairfield’s stakeholders are involved in the development of the Strategic Plan. The Town is committed to involving residents, businesses, and workers in the process in order to craft a community vision for Fairfield’s future. Ultimately, the completed Strategic Plan will be provided to the Board of Selectmen for evaluation and implementation.
We already have other plans. What will happen to those?
Existing plans are an important part of the Strategic Plan process. These plans guide the current management of the Town and will inform the Strategic Plan. Depending on the Strategic Plan recommendations, aspects of the existing plans may be updated so that all plans will be better integrated into the overall direction of the Town.
When will the Plan start and when will it be completed?
The initial phases of the Plan have begun, with anticipated completion in mid-2019.
